You know we think Rhymefest is one of the top rappers on the planet. Forget Kanye (always act a fool oww oww) West… Rhymefest is worth listening to.

He’s got a mixtape on his website right now that you need to download. We could talk about how great it is, there’s no need. Basically it’s Rhymefest, with some of the best in the business, doing his thing over Michael Jackson samples. It’s call “Man in the Mirror”… and of course Mark Ronson is on production duties!

The mowtown sound is definitely coming back, due mainly to the workings of Mr Mark Ronson. The success of Amy Winehouse showed record labels that a demand for this sort of music is very much alive.

100 days, 100 nights is the newest album from Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings. The Dap-Kings have collaborated all over the place, from Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black album to working with people like Mark Ronson. These guys are rooted in the foundations of soul music and you can tell it from the first listen.

100 days, 100 nights is the third album from Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings. These guys have the potential to make soul music great again, some say they are a force that can save soul music. The songs have the same class and timeless quality of any of the motown classics. Mark Ronson’s been giving the album a lot of play on his online radio show, particularly “tell me”. The album really isn’t suitable for club play, it’s a bit too laid back for that.

This is one of those albums you buy just for chilling out at home, think “Back to Mine” series and you kinda get the idea. Check out the “Back to Mine” website.

Some background info on Kissy Sell Out – He began DJing at the age of 13 in 1998, having turned from a Nirvana fan to a confused dance music fan overnight when he came across an acid house mix CD. “I started making my own music as a natural progression from DJing. Someone’s uploaded the track onto youtube here, so you can give it a listen and see what you think. I’ve tried it on a club system and it sounds nice – loads of bass, feels a bit like Justin’s “Sexy back” but it’s a good bit slower – about 106bpm.

His remix is doing the rounds on the internet but if you want to get a high quality copy of it we recommend you go ahead and buy it. It’s available on the Killer’s new album Sawdust. It’s not a tune for every dance floor, it feels a bit on the slow side mainly because the cord progression doesn’t happen as quickly as in the original. Personally I like what he’s done with the song and I reckon that crowds who know their music will definitely go for this.

Wale, just so you know it’s pronounced “wah-lay” is a serious new talent in the music industry. This guy has emerged from the DC hip hop scene and is winning fans all over the place, some have even gone so far as to say he’ll be the man to save hip hop. I don’t know about saving hip hop – what I do know is this stuff will get most any decent crowd going…and even if it doesn’t, anyone into music will enjoy his stuff.

He’s got the backing of Mark Ronson, which alone adds hugely to his potential for success. Ronson has been championing Wale on his East Village Radio Show and asked Wale to play with him on his UK tour this year.

Wale recently released his third mixtape, 100 Miles & Running, mixed by Nick Catachdubs, which is available to download free at the official Allidorecords website the zshare link is here. I guess they’re trying to get some hype around Wale by putting the mixtape up for free download, and I think it’s a good idea. There are some really cool bits on this mixtape. W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E., the Amy Winehouse – Rehab remix and DC Gorillaz (which samples “Dirty Harry” by the Gorilla) are three great tracks nicely worked. The “D.A.N.C.E.” ep preceded the release of “Cross” and because of this nearly everyone has been focusing on the title track to that ep. Everyone has remixed or jumped on the “D.A.N.C.E.” tune by now. WALE has a pretty decent track sampling the Justice hit – it’s called “W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E.” …original name, I know.

But what everyone seems to have missed is that the album is full of tunes equally good, if not better, than “D.A.N.C.E.”. There’s a killer remix of the track “Phantom Pt. II” from Soulwax doing the rounds. The album is full of gritty little tunes like “Genesis” and “Waters of Nazareth” and Justice cannot deny their Ed Banger Records heritage. This stuff isn’t for every dance floor, but will rock the right crowd.

Justice have also some quality remixes that I like to spin at the moment. For one, there’s a very tasty remix of “Justin Timberlake – Lovestoned” and if you can get a copy of that it works a treat on most crowds.

Most everyone loves daft punk. I find clubbers always request the daft punk classic tracks like “around the world.” With Kayne West using the “hard, better, faster, stronger” sample this year, the audience and demand for daft punk is wide open and bigger than ever. The thing I find about playing daft punk songs is that most of the best ones are quite old, so some people get a little bored. This album has solved this problem in style.

Some of my favourite mash-ups on the album are “Around The World / Harder Better Faster Stronger”, “Television Rules The Nation / Crescendolls” and “Touch It / Technologic”.

Basically this is daft punk at their very best. They’ve mashed up their big hits, added bits, taken some bits away, and come up with twelve stompers that will rock any decent club. There are crowd sounds on the recording, but that won’t stop you from playing this out. This is how live music should be done. Music lover or dj you will enjoy this album.
